The Russian GP-5 gas mask, developed during the Cold War era, is an iconic piece of Soviet military history. Introduced in 1962, the GP-5 was designed to protect civilians and military personnel from chemical, biological, and radiological threats. Manufactured from the 1960s until the late 1980s, this mask features a distinctive design with a grey rubber facepiece and circular glass eye pieces, providing a full-face seal. The GP-5 uses a 40mm GOST filter canister, making it compatible with various Soviet Bloc filters used worldwide. Originally intended for the masses during nuclear fallout scenarios, the GP-5 gas mask has now found its place among collectors, survivalists, and enthusiasts for its historical value and unique appearance. Despite its initial purpose, it is now often used in educational displays, historical reenactments, and as a symbol of Cold War preparedness.
New old stock condition, each set will include the mask, a filter, a carrying bag, and a set of spare anti-fog lenses. The rubber still has an anti-stick agent on it, be sure to wash thoroughly before putting it on. The sizes for these masks are rather hard to decipher and are more or less of a suggestion, so this batch is sorted by color only. The masks themselves are intended to fit extremely snug on the face to create a strong seal and are notorious for pulling out long hair - be careful.
WARNING : DUE TO MANUFACTURING TECHNIQUES EMPLOYED IN THE FORMER SOVIET UNION, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE FILTERS INCLUDED WITH THESE MASKS CONTAIN HARMFUL CARCINOGENS. THE FILTERS ARE FOR DISPLAY ONLY AND NOT FOR ACTUAL USE. MANY COMPANIES MAKE 40MM GOST TO NATO ADAPTORS TO USE NEW FILTERS WITH THESE MASKS.
